Raikkonen: Alfa Romeo are moving in the right direction
Kimi Raikkonen believes Alfa Romeo are moving in the right direction and have made improvements on where they were 12 months ago, following a assured performance in Formula 1 pre-season testing in Barcelona.
Raikkonen moved to Alfa Romeo after leaving Ferrari at the end of last season and enjoyed a solid year alongside the emerging Antonio Giovinazzi.
The Finn believes that their new car for 2020 has enjoyed a solid start to testing, saying: “The immediate feeling is pretty positive. For my first testing day, it was an OK one.
"The important thing is that everything seems to be working well, with no major issues.
“There is still a long way to go but I think we made a step forward compared to last year.”
Raikkonen produced the fastest time on Thursday in Barcelona, recording 1:17.091, though other drivers were quicker on both Wednesday and Friday.
His team-mate Giovinazzi managed 152 laps on Friday, recording a time of 1:17.469 which placed him sixth in the day's rankings, and he echoed the thoughts of Kimi regarding their overall performance.
He added: “I am pretty satisfied with our work, both today and in the whole of the week. “We were able to run without issues and that’s the main thing. For me, every new lap, every new run means getting more confidence with the new car.”
