Zak Brown hails 'outstanding' McLaren team principal Andres Seidl

Brown: “It’s early in the journey but there’s good progress"

McLaren chief executive officer Zak Brown praises the work done by team principal Andreas Seidl in the short space of time since joining the team in 2019.

Seidl took the position with McLaren in January 2019 and led the team to fourth place in the constructors' standings - climbing from sixth in 2018.

“Last year was a really strong year for us, our best year since 2012,” said Brown. “That being said, it’s still very early in the journey. First thing we needed to do was to address our issues, recognise our issues and make some changes.

“I think we’ve got a great leadership team in place, starting with Andreas [Seidl], who’s our team principal. He’s done an outstanding job in a short period of time, but we’re coming from quite a deficit to where we want to get to."

The winter break is always a time of fierce development as teams race to get ready for their launches and preseason, but the real enjoyment for a team comes from being on track and racing, something Brown is looking forward to getting back to.

“It’s early in the journey but there’s good progress," added Brown. "I’m really pleased with the team he’s put in place and the structure. The drivers did an outstanding job last year and brought a lot of energy to the garage.

“It feels good to be racing again. McLaren feels like we are a team on the move, but there’s still a long way to go to close the gap on where we want to be.”

Preseason testing will begin on February 19 when McLaren will first take to the track with the MCL35.
