Vettel, Leclerc failures never happened before, Ferrari claim
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto claims that the issues which resulted in premature exits for both Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc in German GP qualifying were entirely new and have never happened to the team before.
The Scuderia team-mates were the two fastest drivers in the practice sessions, but were left cursing their luck in qualifying after Vettel was eliminated in Q1 after a turbo air problem, while Leclerc was 10th in Q3 after being forced to retire due to a fuelling issue.
It is the latest in a long line of car problems that have arisen for Ferrari this season. Even though the issues have been frequent, Binotto says these ones are fresh.
"I take the responsibility first,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“There is disappointment, for us, for the drivers and the people at home, above all because I believe that today the first row was within reach.

“We are disappointed and angry with ourselves. These are things that should not happen, and they are happening too many times. We must react to new problems have never happened before and we must analyse them.”
The Italian remains upbeat that Ferrari can still make an impact on the race at Hockenheim on Sunday, no matter what the weather may be.
“Now we face the race with the desire to do well, the race pace is good and anything can happen,” Binotto added.
“Anger is right, but we must react. The rain? We don't think about these things, the car is strong in the dry.”
