Albon grid penalty confirmed for Austria

Albon grid penalty confirmed for Austria

Alexander Albon will be fitted with Honda's latest engine at the Austrian Grand Prix, saddling the Toro Rosso driver with a grid penalty in Spielberg. Albon was the only Honda-powered driver not to take the upgrade in France last weekend.

Albon's team-mate Daniil Kvyat took grid penalties at Paul Ricard after he was fitted with the new engine and the team were keen to avoid both drivers dropping down the order.

And the Thai driver will have to fight through the field if he is to take points from the Red Bull Ring this week.

"Having given our Spec 3 PU its debut a few days ago without any issues in France, we have acquired plenty of data from it," Honda technical director Toyoharu Tanabe said.

"This week all four of our drivers, including Alex, will have the latest specification PU which means he has to take grid penalties.

"Once again, very hot conditions are forecast for this weekend too, so we must keep that factor in mind during our preparation and refer to data we have acquired in France."
