FIA make final decision on Vettel's Canada penalty
The FIA has rejected Ferrari's request to open a review into the penalty given to the German during the Canadian Grand Prix, confirming his second-place finish behind Lewis Hamilton in Montreal. According to the FIA, Ferrari's new evidence did not add anything to the investigation.
The stewards' decision read: "There are no significant and relevant new elements which were unavailable to the parties at the time of the competition concerned."
Vettel was given a five-second time penalty after squirming back onto the track ahead of Hamilton as they battled for the lead.
Hamilton inherited the win as a result, ensuring Mercedes' winning run at the start of 2019 extended to seven grands prix.
Ferrari dropped an appeal, i order to pursue a right to review, with sporting director Laurent Mekies claiming that new evidence was "overwhelming" in proving Vettel had made no error.
Part of Ferrari's dossier of new evidence included telemetry, new camera angles, as well as - somewhat bizarrely - an analysis done by Sky Sports pundit Karun Chandhok.
