Hamilton dedicates Spanish win to fan with cancer
Lewis Hamilton has claimed it was the recent correspondence from a sick fan which gave him the extra impetus to go and win the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona on Sunday. Despite starting behind Valtteri Bottas on the grid, he quickly overtook his team-mate into P1 and didn't surrender the spot from there.
Mercedes claimed a historic 1-2, and the win for the five-time champion saw him leapfrog Bottas in the driver's championship.
The drive to do this, he told Sky Sports, came from a tweet he received from Harry – a fan of the team who suffers from Ewing’s Sarcoma – with the Brit saying that his support “was [his] inspiration".
"Yesterday was a difficult day but I arrived today and I got this great message from this young kid called Harry and he just became my spirit, that was my inspiration," said Hamilton.
"When I woke up this morning, I was a bit lost and kind of 'how's today going to go?' and then I saw that message and I was like 'I see you Harry, I've got you'.
"I want to dedicate this one to Harry. If you're watching, sending you the love.
For Harry 💪 This brave, inspiring young man was diagnosed with cancer in August 2018 and he’s not stopped fighting since!

"So many people sent such great messages out there and everybody loved the message he sent me. It means a lot to me.
"He could have chosen any other driver, of course, and on the most difficult of days to have sent a message like that is very humbling and much appreciated."
