Even Baku's madness won't stretch to Williams points

Robert Kubica believes that history has shown that anything is possible at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, but believes that Williams are simply too far behind the other teams in terms of performance to think about a miraculous run into the points positions.

It has not been a good start to the season for Williams, as not only have they displayed a desperate lack of pace during the first three races, but they suffered the embarrassment of their car not even being on location for the first day of testing in Barcelona.

In the two races since it was added to the calendar, the race in Baku has thrown up some surprising results, such as Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll, then of Force India and Williams, making it on to the podium.

Kubica, however, thinks his team are too far behind to repeat the feat.

"Baku showed that everything is possible, but I think we are too far off from the pack to think about it," he told Motorsport.com.

"Of course in the past editions, especially two years ago, a lot of things happened during the race and some cars finished in the front, but we will have to see.

"First of all, this is a new track for me so I'm not thinking too much about the race. I'm thinking about approaching the weekend in the right way and try to get a good feeling straight away on a street circuit."

The Pole, who will be performing on his first street circuit in F1 in nine years, also admits that he is in the dark as to the reason for his car’s lack of performance compared to his team-mate George Russell.

"I don't know exactly how we are going to, let's say, approach this week, but I would say from what I know people have been working on it and trying to understand, but I think for now we don't have a clear solution," Kubica said of the difference.
