Grosjean excluded from Italian GP after Haas ruled 'non-compliant'
Romain Grosjean has been excluded from the Italian Grand Prix after his Haas car was found to infringe regulations by the FIA after Renault made a complaint. The move restores Renault into fourth in the constructors' standings after Haas had moved ahead of them at Monza.
The floor of Grosjean's car was found to be "not in compliance" with technical regulations at Monza, but Haas are able to appeal the decision.
Kevin Magnussen appears not to have been subjected to any punishment, although he finished last of the classified drivers in 17th.
Haas have attracted accusatory glances from their rivals for much of the campaign after emerging from pre-season testing at the front of the midfield pack.
Other teams' complaints relate to Haas taking all listed parts from Ferrari - Fernando Alonso has said the Haas was a "clone" of Ferrari's car.
Grosjean and Magnussen have arguably not made the most of their pace in 2018 - the Frenchman did not score points until the ninth race of the season, but Sunday saw him finish in the top 10 for the fifth time in six grands prix.
The timing of Renault's complaint is hardly surprising - the French squad have designs on becoming title contenders in the coming years and will want to maximise their financial rewards in the constructors' championship. Renault are now 10 points clear of Haas in fourth with seven races remaining in 2018.
ONE MORE UPDATE: We note the Stewards' decision to uphold the team's request for clarification concerning the legality of the Haas F1 Team VF-18. We have no further comment on this matter. https://t.co/D9qwM69UzN #ItalianGP — Renault Sport F1 (@RenaultSportF1) September 2, 2018
The disqualification will have ramifications elsewhere.
Force India jump to seventh in the constructors' standings - ahead of Williams, Sauber and Toro Rosso - just two races into their new life as Racing Point Force India after Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez were promoted to sixth and seventh respectively.
It also moves Sergey Sirotkin up from 11th place - securing his first point in F1. The Russian was the only driver on the grid yet to score in 2018, but has now completed a double-points finish for Williams after Lance Stroll came home 10th - now improved to ninth.
