The FIA have confirmed the official F1 starting grid for the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix ahead of today's (Sunday, July 27) 44-lap shootout at Spa.

After winning the sprint race on Saturday, Max Verstappen could only manage the fourth best qualifying time at Spa with the McLarens instead locking out the front row.

Lando Norris secured pole position ahead of his team-mate Oscar Piastri, while Charles Leclerc will start ahead of Verstappen in third.

Leclerc's Ferrari team-mate endured a nightmare qualifying session at Spa however, where Hamilton's best lap in Q1 was deleted for exceeding track limits at Turn 4.

Hamilton will start a disappointing P16 on the grid and two places ahead of Kimi Antonelli in P18 who also had two shocking qualifying sessions in Belgium.

Here is the final starting grid for 2025 Belgian Grand Prix as confirmed by the FIA!

**Lewis Hamilton qualified P16 but will start from the pitlane after accumulating a 60-place grid penalty due to power unit component changes.

***Kimi Antonelli qualified P18 but will start from the pitlane after accumulating a 40-place grid penalty due to power unit component changes.

****Fernando Alonso qualified P19 but will start from the pitlane after accumulating a 40-place grid penalty due to power unit component changes.

Why do F1 drivers take engine penalties at Belgian GP?

F1 teams usually make engine component changes for the Belgian GP due to the long straights on the circuit and the increased emphasis on power compared to other circuits.

Furthermore, there are plenty of opportunities for overtaking at Spa which means taking an engine penalty in Belgium is less costly than other tracks.

For example, Max Verstappen went from 14th on the grid to secure the race win at the 2022 Belgian Grand Prix, in a stunning display.
