F1 beefs up its cyber security ahead of new season
Formula 1 has reinforced its cyber security operation ahead of the new season.
Three of the 10 teams in Williams, Aston Martin and Ferrari were all recently hacked ahead of the launches of their new cars, highlighting vulnerability and the advanced technology of those prepared to conduct such attacks.
Given the volume of sensitive data handled by F1 across a season, it has appointed a global leader in cyber operations in the Herjavec Group to safeguard its systems.
The UK-based organisation will offer round-the-clock protection for F1, notably in securing the technical centre at each of the events on the record-breaking 23-race calendar.
F1 head of IT infrastructure Chris Roberts said: “When you think about securing F1, everyone tends to focus on the data each car produces because the analysis of speed and performance is a critical factor in achieving the podium.
"But as we sought out a cyber security services provider, we needed a partner with industry-wide expertise, a global perspective and the ability to scale alongside our digital transformations – trackside, across our corporate operations, and in the entertainment space.
"We chose to partner with Herjavec Group because they excel in security at scale and we are confident in their ability to support us in protecting our infrastructure as we continue to expand our leadership as the pinnacle of motorsport.”
