Aston Martin vehemently condemn sale rumours
Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll has emphatically denied speculation he is poised to sell the luxury automotive manufacturer to a Chinese multinational company.
A report emerged last week that BYD, whose manufacturing portfolio includes cars, buses and trucks, was looking to acquire Aston Martin. It valued the deal at £4.1bn.
Although the Formula 1 team is a separate business entity to that of the car company for Stroll and his consortium, any potential sale would have a knock-on effect.
Stroll, who only purchased a controlling 25% stake in Aston Martin last April and took on the role of executive chairman, has categorically dismissed the rumours.
A team spokesman said: “Lawrence Stroll described the rumour as ‘absolute bullshit and totally untrue’.
“Lawrence says he 'couldn’t be more excited about, and sincerely believes in, the team’s long-term future success.”
At the turn of the year, the F1 team was rebranded from Racing Point to Aston Martin, with Stroll making his enthusiasm for the return of the team to F1 after a 61-year absence abundantly clear.
"Motorsport has always been an important part of the Aston Martin story, right from its early days, and we’re all proud to be adding to that legacy," said Stroll.
"The return of Aston Martin to Formula One after more than 60 years away is also a landmark moment in the history of the sport.
"This is the arena where many of the world’s biggest and best automotive manufacturers have competed and had success.
"So it’s a hugely exciting challenge for everyone involved as we aim to get this iconic British sports car brand amongst those names.”
