New ownership will push Williams "back to where it belongs" on F1 grid - Russell

George Russell is hopeful the recent acquisition of Williams will help propel the team back up the Formula 1 grid.

Williams, family-owned since it was founded by Sir Frank Williams in 1977, was acquired last week by American investment firm Dorilton Capital.

While Williams will continue to race under the same name and from their base in Grove, the money Dorilton Capital can bring to the table could be a game-changer

"Very positive news for Williams as a whole and everybody who works for the team," said Russell in his first reaction to the news ahead of this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.

"Very pleased to see the company, the team is stable moving forward, and has got a great company behind them to help push Williams back to where it belongs, which is definitely higher up the grid!"

While the changes in performance will not be instant, the team's long-term future at least now appears brighter.

For the coming months, however, Russell's team-mate Nicholas Latifi recognises Dorilton will initially be taking stock of the situation before implementing its plans.

"The coming days, weeks, months are going to be [about] evaluating everything like any company would when they are acquiring a new company," said Latifi.

"And see where the investment needs to be diverted to. But overall it can only be positive."
