Leclerc leads strong line-up for the Virtual Chinese Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc returns for a second outing in the F1 Esports Virtual Chinese Grand Prix this weekend alongside five other Formula 1 drivers.

Leclerc, who took victory in his esports debut around the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne earlier this April, again takes on rivals George Russell [Williams], Antonio Giovinazzi [Alfa Romeo], Lando Norris [McLaren], Alex Albon [Red Bull] and Nicholas Latifi [Williams].

Ferrari has yet to confirm who will be driving alongside the two-time grands prix winner. Last time out Leclerc was partnered with younger brother Arthur, himself a member of the Ferrari driver academy.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been a surprise package in the early races, and his strong performances have seen Red Bull poach the footballer away from Racing Point for the Chinese race.

With the global Covid-19 pandemic seeing strict lockdowns remaining in force across much of the world, the popularity of esports continues to grow.

Julian Tan, the Formula 1 head of digital business initiatives and esports, is pleased to again be able to put on a show for the suffering fans.

“From an esports perspective, the last virtual grand prix was one of our most successful events we’ve ever put on, so it’s great to be back and be able to continue building something that has proven hugely popular," said Tan.

"It’s very important to us that we can give our fans something to look forward in these uncertain times, so to see such an impressive list of returning drivers is fantastic. We hope the racing action is just as thrilling and fun as last time out!”
