Fernando Alonso showed that there was no hard feelings towards Alex Albon after their coming together at the US Grand Prix, jokingly grabbing the Williams driver by the throat with a big smile during a media appearance in Mexico City.

Alonso sounded off on Albon and the other drivers racing at the back of the F1 grid just a few days prior, after he picked up damage after a collision with the Williams driver at the Circuit of the Americas.

"That Albon forgot that the corner was there and that he had to turn left," Alonso quipped to F1TV when asked for his view on the incident that ruined his day in Austin.

"But yeah, we need to get better and start a bit higher up because I think the bottom third of the grid, the quality of the drivers is very low at the moment."

Alonso then doubled down on those comments ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix, telling Sky Sports: "I think it's a very low level of driving, and lack of talent."

"When you make repeated mistakes throughout the season, and you have crashes on 50% of your races in lap one. If I was the team principal, I would not be happy. But if they are happy, you know, I'm okay with that."

Despite that, though, he showed that his anger towards Albon had subsided when the two Aston Martin drivers appeared alongside the two Williams drivers at a fan event in Mexico City.

As Alonso walked on to the stage, he playfully grabbed Albon around the throat, but both he and the Williams driver were all smiles as he did so, demonstrating that last weekend's tensions had eased.

Unfortunately, there was more frustration for Alonso in Mexico City; this time he had his car to blame and not any of his fellow drivers, though.

Nine minutes into qualifying on Saturday, the two-time world champion was forced to retire from the session with an issue on his Honda power unit, and post-session, he even joked that he wouldn't turn up to race on Sunday, telling media: 'I'm heading straight to Brazil.'
