Alonso jabs F1 over Twitter gag
Fernando Alonso couldn't resist a cheeky dig at Formula 1 off social media after the official F1 account had teased the retiring veteran about his slightly bizarre end to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Alonso cut the same corner three laps in a row at Yas Marina as he chased a point-paying place in what could be his final F1 outing.
The Spaniard was running 11th for McLaren in the closing stages of the race, chasing Kevin Magnussen for a farewell point.
As his tyres fell away, Alonso cut the chicane at turns 8 and 9 over three consecutive laps, ultimately earning a collection of time penalties at the end of the race.
With many workers clocking off for the festive period, F1's official Twitter account used footage of the incident in a humorous post at Alonso's expense.

Of course, Alonso isn't the only driver to have explored beyond the boundaries of track limits this year.
And he was quick to cut back with an image that painted plenty of words…
