Ferrari still unconvinced by Liberty Media's 2021 plan

Ferrari are yet to commit to Formula 1 beyond the end of 2020, the Scuderia's CEO Louis C Camilleri has warned. Before his death, Sergio Marchionne routinely issued threats that the famous Italian squad could drop out of the sport due to frustrations over Liberty Media's plans.

The former president particularly railed against Liberty's plans for "cheaper" and "simpler" from 2021, accusing the American owners of changing the "DNA" of F1.

Marchionne's sudden death in July saw Camilleri and John Elkann brought into positions of power at Maranello, although the former chief's decision to replace Kimi Raikkonen with Charles Leclerc was honoured, despite reports suggesting that the new board had favoured the Finn.

And it appears that Marchionne's frustrations with Liberty are also held by his successors, Camilleri saying that Ferrari are yet to be fully convinced.

"Discussions are underway regarding the technical, financial and governance aspects," Camilleri said.

"We believe there is a basic consensus on the principle objectives that will define the future, but the precise vision as to how to get there is still quite far away.

"Progress has been made, but we are still far from an agreement that includes everything and can be signed by all the participants.

"I remain optimistic that an agreement will be reached in time, but I would like to add that as Ferrari, we continue to insist that it cannot be to the detriment of F1 remaining as the top technical competition in motor sport.

"There are obvious conflicts of interest. Liberty wants to make more money and the teams do too, so we are all waiting a bit."
