Hamilton: Mercedes the greatest sports team in the world

Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton believes Mercedes might be the best team "that sport's ever seen". The Silver Arrows' dominance of F1's hybrid era has landed a sweep of titles in four successive seasons, with Hamilton once again entering the season as favourite for individual honours.

Hamilton held off Sebastian Vettel to win his fourth individual titles, and third with Mercedes, last season, adding to his crowns won with the Silver Arrows in 2014 and 2015.

Red Bull and Ferrari are expected to close the gap to Mercedes in 2018, having enjoyed impressive displays in pre-season testing.

However, Mercedes' were seemingly keen to keep their true pace under wraps, leaving Hamilton in a confident frame of mind as the season-opening Australian Grand Prix nears.

"I'm forever grateful for the opportunity to continue on with Mercedes Benz," he said in an interview with Mercedes' partner Tommy Hilfiger.

"Obviously they signed me when I was 13 so every race, every single lap I've done in Formula 1, has been with Mercedes Benz.

"So to be a part of an integral part of the brand and of the team, it really is the teamwork.

"Collectively the unit is just the best I've ever seen in Formula 1 and I'm pretty sure that sport's ever seen.

"I'm proud to be a part of that and I'm proud to be a part of that chain that helps win."
