Hamilton slates "injustice" of "terrible attacks" in Ukraine
Drivers reflected on the increasing conflict in Ukraine across the first pre-season test.
Lewis Hamilton has called on his social media following to "stand against" the "injustice" of the increasing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
F1 cancelled the 2022 running of the Russian Grand Prix on Friday with UEFA also moving the Champions League final from Saint Petersburg to Paris.
Prior to the cancellation, Sebastian Vettel had indicated that "my decision is already made" and "I will not go" should the event have remained on the calendar.
Taking to social media after topping the final day of running at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Hamilton made his thoughts on the conflict clear.
"When we see injustice, it is important we stand against it," said Hamilton.
"My heart goes out to all the courageous people of Ukraine who are facing such terrible attacks for simply choosing a better future and I stand with the Russian citizens who oppose this violence and seek peace, often at risk to their own freedom.
"Please stay safe everyone. We are praying for you."
The effects of financial sanctions placed on Russia have begun to be felt within the F1 paddock too, with Haas to hold "sort out all the legal stuff" with title sponsor Uralkali next week. On Friday, the VF-22 ran in a plain white livery without Uralkali branding.
