How you watch F1 might be about to change...

Formula One has announced a new way to watch races in the 2018 season and beyond. The launch of 'F1 TV' will allow subscribers in Germany, France, USA and more to watch commercial-free feeds featuring the chance to ride on-board with drivers.

The service is set to be released during the coming season, with F1 revealing "Germany, France, USA, Mexico, Belgium, Austria, Hungary and much of Latin America" will benefit at launch.

A statement labelled the move "F1’s biggest investment in its digital transformation to date" and is set to shake up the way the sport is watched globally.

"Our objective with F1 TV is simple: provide these fans with the best available service to watch live Grands Prix and provide them with the best sports OTT customer experience in the world," said Frank Arthofer, director of digital and new business.

"Our team and our partners are singularly focused on delivering on that vision: not just for launch but over the long-term. Live streaming video is an exciting space changing almost daily.”

Earlier on Tuesday, commercial director Sean Bratches had offered hints at how Liberty Media were looking to shake up F1 coverage from this year.

Lower camera angles and a focus on airing live overtakes are central as Liberty look to attract the disenfranchised and casual fans back to F1 on race weekends.

"We have this fictitious idea of a 22-year-old person who is not an F1 fan but who has a friend who is an avid friend and tells him to watch," explained Bratches.

"So when that person tunes in, we want them to understand what is going on."
