Hamilton the "streetfighter" has dealt Verstappen a psychological blow - Hill

Hamilton the "streetfighter" has dealt Verstappen a psychological blow - Hill

Lewis Hamilton has dealt Max Verstappen a psychological blow in this year's F1 title race by displaying his "streetfighter" instincts at the British Grand Prix, according to former champion Damon Hill.

Hamilton and Verstappen tangled on the opening lap at Silverstone as neither yielded into the 180mph Copse corner, with the Red Bull driver suffering a heavy shunt into a tyre while the Briton went on to take victory.

It was the first time the pair have made contact this year despite multiple near misses at Imola, Barcelona and Portimão in particular, allowing Hill to believe Hamilton has now laid down a marker for the rest of the season.

"It was a statement of intent, wasn't it?" said Hill. "It was Lewis saying 'I am a streetfighter and if you are going to get rough with me, I am going to have to show you what I have got'.

"Psychologically, that is going to have made a dent in Max, it has to. It has made him realise that Lewis, in a wheel-to-wheel battle is not going to back down. That has got to go down in the mental notebook."

FIA should step in if Hamilton, Verstappen overstep mark

With 10 of the 23 races completed this season, there is a high probability of a repeat incident between the championship protagonists as tensions rise.

Put to Hill that Verstappen will be just as uncompromising despite the incident, he feels that is when the FIA will have to clamp down.

He added: "At which point, Michael Masi [FIA race director] is going to have to step in and say 'Guys, I know you are fighting for a world title and you would probably take your crash helmets off and have a stand-up fight in the paddock but you cannot do this to the sport, there are safety issues we have to consider at these speeds'.

"He has to somehow instil discipline and issue penalties if two cars collide."

What do you think?

So basically ruin the sport just because verstappen has had his last warning. Its about time someone stood up to the RBR driver. He is a bully who has his team right where he needs them, in the ear of the FIA. horner was right on the phone to Masi, "please sir mister Masi sir, please punish that naughty Lewis Hamilton for a fair overtake of my cheating number one." If the FIA step in on a fair racing incident you will end up with a race to the first corner and that's it. That'll please horner but will ruin f1 for everyone else. And honestly, all These mind games horner is trying to play, doing his best to get in Hamiltons head, the guy should grow up!!

Sorry to disagree with "Random Person" but I think you must have been watching a different race to the rest of us. If this had been the first incident that Hamilton had had, then ok, but as this is the third time he has put a championship rival off the track, so as to gain an advantage. Total unsportsmanship. As for mind games, it should be Hamilton and Toto Wolf who should grow up.

Hamilton had plenty of space on the inside of the track.

He could have known he had to go wide, which is impossible because there was Max.

That he could not follow the apex there is because he should not have been there in the first place. Meaning, he made big (intentional?) beginners F.U. ?? I can not believe that the most experienced guy makes such an error.

He also mentioned a few times that with a fight with Max, he stays away. Now he was loosing, he starts taking desperate actions. The others he pushed off the track, he said "sorry".

Now he said, "So what? he walked out in one piece". For me that´s showing he did care about what what happened.

Sore looser. I hope he is proud of himself.

he also

It is not Lewis who "tapped" into Max it is Max who tap Lewis when he aggressively try to defend, when he suddenly veered right knowing Lewis was there believing Lewis would brake to avoid collision as Lewis done countless times in the past. That's Max aggression way of thinking but Lewis no more Mr nice guy, so the glove is off

I agree, lewis is a clean driver and did nothing wrong - max is an out and out bully and should be reprimanded big time for his repeated poor driving

'Sir' Hamilton has lost all respect with his desperate unsportmanslike move causing a collision.

The celebrations after the race were out of propertions and disrepectfull towards Verstappen.

Verstappen is the better driver of the two. Hard to admit but it is.

Verstappen is not the better driver he is just an arrogant aggressive bully and should be penalized as should Horner for his silly outbursts

No excuses from Sir Hamilton, his first response was, I have damage on my car…the second , he cut in to me.. and later when he was interviewed while Max was in hospital, Max is such an aggressive driver…and I’m not going to make excuses.

How many times did Verstappen drive Hamilton of the track.. ever? And how many times did Lewis do that to Max? And Albon for that matter when Albon was leading
