Hamilton is yet to sign new Mercedes contract

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has confirmed that Lewis Hamilton has not yet signed a new contract with the Silver Arrows, but insisted that positive talks are ongoing and that he expects the current world champion to put pen to paper soon.

Hamilton won his fourth title in the 2017 season and is widely expected to sign a new contract with Mercedes before his current deal runs out at the end of the 2018 campaign.

Wolff has revealed that a new contract is on the table, but Hamilton is yet to commit his future to the team.

“Lewis has become such an important pillar within the team that it’s a no-brainer that we continue with each other,” the Austrian told the Mercedes team website.

“The discussions are ongoing in a very positive mindset and it’s just a matter of time when we seal it and put a signature to the document.”

Hamilton himself said in November that he expects negotiations to go smoothly, and reiterated his desire to do well for the team.

“It is quite an easy process for us,” Hamilton said.

“We already have something in place and it’s really just about extending it and enhancing it, working on what more I can do for them, for the sponsors, the brand and vice versa.”

Wolff went on to provide an insight into how preparations were going in the Mercedes camp for the new season.

“We’ve had a good winter, I would say,” he added. “No real drama, but there is always stress within the organisation at that time of the year.”
