Perez unconcerned about persistent rumours linking Vettel to his Racing Point seat

Sergio Perez is not worried about rumours he will be replaced by Sebastian Vettel at Racing Point in 2021.

The Mexican's current deal at Racing Point runs until the end of 2021 but reports suggest there is an exit clause in his contract that could be triggered to make way for Vettel.

Vettel currently does not have a drive for the 2021 Formula 1 season after Ferrari elected not to renew the German's contact.

Since being made available on the market, Vettel has been consistently been linked with a move to Racing Point. With Lance Stroll, the son of owner Lawrence Stroll, in one of seat, conclusions were immediately reached that Perez would likely be the driver to make way for Vettel.

Addressing the rumours, Perez said: "On the rumours with Sebastian, there’s nothing I can do.

"What I’ve heard from the team that we all want to keep going, to continue. So I believe it’s just a matter of time before those rumours can go away."

Perez, who has been with Racing Point - previously Force India - since 2014 has been a massive part in the Silverstone-based side's rise, finishing fourth in the constructors' championship in both 2016 and 2017.

An eight-time podium finisher, Perez also confirmed he has not talked to any other team about a potential seat in the future, underlining his confidence in retaining his drive at Racing Point.

He added: "No, not really given that my position with the team looks quite secure and it’s the feeling that I’ve been getting.

"We’re fully on this package and we want to continue as well."

Perez concluded by saying he "didn't make anything" of Vettel sharing a ride with Racing Point team principal Otmar Szafnauer at Silverstone.
