Verstappen has little interest in F1 history

Max Verstappen has admitted that he does not have a big interest in the history of Formula One or the vintage cars which are beloved by so many, as he is more of a fan of the modern, powerful units which he currently drives.

The Dutchman is considered to be one of the most talented drivers to come through the ranks of Formula One in years and a future world champion.

Despite his clear talent, he admits he is not too bothered about the historical element of F1.

"I do know a bit about it, but my knowledge doesn't stretch that far back," he told sports journalist Wilfried de Jong.

"I know the names, but the really old cars don't really have my interest," he continued.

"I'd never really have the urge to drive those cars; they're just too old, too slow. Although anything driven on the limit is challenging, it just doesn't do it for me.

"Guys like Sebastian Vettel love the old cars and bikes," he added.

"I'm more modern."

The 20-year-old has three Grand Prix victories to his name in Spain, Malaysia, and Mexico and will once again partner Daniel Ricciardo with Red Bull for the 2018 campaign.

He recently signed a new contract with the team of the energy drinks manufacturer which has secured him down to 2020, with Mercedes and Ferrari reportedly keen on signing him before he put pen to paper on the new deal.
