Marchionne reveals what it means to be a 'true champion'

Ferrari chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne has revealed what he thinks it takes for a driver to be a true champion, and it is not only driving ability but also their personality as a human being and their decision-making in difficult times.

The Prancing Horse are the only team to have featured in every single season of Formula One, and Marchionne has been at the helm for seven years.

The Italian-Canadian is the chairman and CEO of Ferrari, the chairman of Maserati, and the CEO of Fiat Chrysler currently and has a wealth of experience in Formula One.

He recently spoke of what he believes makes a 'true champion'.

“The true champions are also great men," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"They are capable of making difficult decisions, of admitting their mistakes and of pushing harder than before when they get up from a fall.

“They also share their success with their colleagues. They are leaders, who take responsibility in every situation, winning the respect of their colleagues and their rivals alike.”

Marchionne was speaking about leadership now that legendary Italian footballer and world cup winner Gianluigi Buffon has turned 40-years-old yet still performs at the highest level for Juventus.

Ferrari currently have Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen in their driving ranks for the 2018 season in Formula One, and it is clear what Marchionne will be looking for from the duo if they are to become 'true champions'.
