Stars not aligning for Vettel Mercedes switch
James Allison says Vettel and Hamilton would 'make it work' if the switch was to materialise
James Allison says Sebastian Vettel is unlikely to join fellow Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes.
The German's future is up the air following the announcement of his departure from Ferrari last month.
“The most obvious thing to say is that we have a very fine driver line-up today," Allison told the F1 Nation Podcast.
“We also have options around us with full access to other fine drivers, so it’s not very easy to imagine the stars aligning in such a way as to ever make the question hypothetical”
However, the Mercedes technical director didn't fully rule out a move for German, suggesting that Hamilton and Vettel would find a way to 'make it work'.
He added: "I imagine if that were to happen then both men would figure out a way to make it work.
“Clearly Lewis is a phenomenal driver and Sebastian has got a fair few achievements under his belt as well.
“I’m sure the professionals in both of them would find a way of making it work.
“I find it very difficult to imagine that the many good options that we have around us would ever evaporate to that extent.”
