Sean Bratches set to leave role as F1 commercial director

Liberty Media in free-fall as Bratches looks to leave Formula One

Sean Bratches to step down as the commercial boss of Formula One ahead of the 2020 season.

A part of the three man team leading Formula One into a new era after Liberty Media took control of the sport from Bernie Ecclestone, Bratches has worked alongside CEO and Chairman Chase Carey and motorsports managing director Ross Brawn.

Over the course of 2019, Bratches made it clear that he was not enjoying the amount of time that his role demanded he spend in London, away from his family and four-children.

"In terms of Sean, I'm discussing," Carey told Autosport. "No decision has been made. Obviously Sean, he lives a unique life where he's got a family that lives in the United States, and he lives in London.

"I think he truly enjoys what he's done, he's enjoyed the experience. I think he's excited about the future, excited about where we're going.

"Right now we don't get a chance to breathe.

"So when we get past this weekend and get back to London we'll have a chance to sort of talk about where do we go from here? But we haven't made any decisions."

Whether Liberty Media would look to install a new third member of the team ahead of the 2020 season is unknown. There have also been questions surrounding the long-term future of Carey in his role, and these are questions that need answers sooner rather than later.
