Hamilton, Leclerc triumphant and Verstappen, Russell dominant: Who won F1's 2019 qualifying battles?

There aren't many better ways to gauge the true talent of a Formula 1 driver than their qualifying performances.

Robert Kubica look away now. The Pole qualified behind rookie Williams team-mate George Russell in all 21 grands prix this season and only twice finished ahead of the Briton in races where both saw the chequered flag - although one was Williams' sole point score in Germany.

Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were tied on five pole positions in 2019, but the six-time world champion's overall record was strong, while Sebastian Vettel could not get the better of Ferrari newcomer Charles Leclerc.
