Lewis Hamilton's father Anthony: He wanted to win the race!
Lewis Hamilton securing a sixth world championship left his father Anthony struggling to comprehend the scale of his son's achievements.
The Mercedes driver moved onto outright second place on Formula 1's list of title winners with a second-place finish at the United States Grand Prix.
Eighth would have sufficed but the Brit pushed Mercedes team-mate and sole remaining title contender Valtteri Bottas all the way for the race win.
His father said that summed up the attitude that has led Hamilton to such a stellar career that shows no sign of slowing down yet.
He told Sky Sports: "Unbelievable win, six world championships, who would have ever have dreamed it?
"We didn't really talk much about the championship, every time we discuss things it's all about doing the best you can at the next race because you're only as good as your last race to a degree.
"The next focus is always to win if you possibly can and then when opportunities like this come around – the win, the world championship – you have to think about your game a little bit more.
"It didn't look like he was thinking too much about it too much out there, it looked like he still wanted to win the race! But that's the way he is."
With Bottas taking the race win to secure a double Mercedes celebration, Hamilton Snr celebrated an all-round triumphant weekend.
He added: "I'm sure he was managing those tyres as best as he possibly could until Valtteri got to within two, three seconds and then he pushed, but not enough.
"But I'm glad for Valtteri because he had the pole, he comes home a winner. We've come from fifth to second and we've won the championship as well."
