F1 reacts to interest from new teams

Liberty Media say "no serious discussions" have been held regarding new teams entering Formula 1 in 2021.

A team based in Asia called Panthera has previously expressed an interest in entering F1, while another outfit linked to the Campos Junior Team did likewise on Thursday.

A statement from Campos backers Monaco Increase Management (MIM) said: "From the first meeting with Chase Carey… it was clear that a Spanish team would fill the void left by the retirement of Fernando Alonso, and increase the interest of the Spanish fans."

Former Manor and Sauber driver Pascal Wehrlein was named as a potential driver, while former McLaren designer Peter McCool and Ex-Mercedes chief aerodynamicist Ben Wood have been identified as technical personnel, and have already begun exploring the potential of a new entry in 2021, when F1's much-vaunted new regulations will come into force.

However, F1's owners say there is no imminent news regarding F1 teams, despite reports claiming Campos are expecting a decision on their admittance later this month.

A statement read: "Following publicity in recent days from several entities that have indicated their ambition to participate in the FIA Formula One World Championship from 2021, while Formula 1 appreciates their interest, we can confirm that there are no serious discussions with any persons or companies about the admission of a new team."
