Racing Point close to confirming 2020 line-up
Silly Season!
Racing Point team principal Otmar Szafnauer has revealed that the team are “well on our way” to confirming their driving duo for the 2020 Formula 1 campaign.
It has been a tumultuous year for the team as this time last season when they were Force India, their very existence was threatened after they went into administration. Since they were taken over by Lawrence Stroll, things have taken a more positive turn, with his son Lance partnering Sergio Perez in 2019.
In F1’s ‘silly season’ speculation is rife as to where drivers will feature in the next campaign, and in an attempt to stay away from the drama, Racing Point are looking to announce their line-up sooner rather than later.
“Well nothing’s done until it’s done, but we’re well on our way,” he said of contracts for 2020.
“That [consistency] is valuable. We have done that, with every once in a while a change. I think in due course, not that far into the future, we’ll make the announcement.”

Just a few weeks ago, Racing Point secured their best win of the season, by far, when Stroll finished fourth in the madness that was the German Grand Prix. Szafnauer has praised the talents of the young Canadian, who made the move from Williams last winter.
“He’s really good. He’s gelling well with his engineering team and learning and getting better and better,” the team CEO added.
“The potential’s there, he’s fast. When you make a change, there’s always stuff to learn and new things. But he’s a very fast learner, very coachable.”
Racing Point are currently eighth in the constructors’ championship ahead of Haas and Williams.
