Leclerc retires from miserable Monaco GP

Just not his weekend.

Charles Leclerc retired from the Monaco Grand Prix after 18 wretched laps as his attempts to recover from Ferrari's qualifying strategy disaster fell flat after crashing into the barriers. It continues his run of DNFs in his home race, which stretches back into his Formula 2 days.

Leclerc started 15th in his home race after Ferrari opted not to run him at the end of Q1 to disastrous effect.

He started his race strongly, making up three places in the opening stages, including a bold overtake on Haas' Romain Grosjean at La Rascasse.

However, a repeat attempt on Nico Hulkenberg at the same spot would spell the beginning of the end for leclerc, as he clunked the barrier with his rear-right tyre and caused a puncture.

In his rush to get back to the pits, Leclerc severely damaged his car's floor.

Despite trying to run after a safety car period, he reported his car was undriveable and he was retired after just a handful of laps.
