Ferrari are 'bluffing' about leaving F1 - Brundle

Sky Sports Formula One pundit Martin Brundle believes that Ferrari are 'bluffing' in regards to their continuous threats to leave the sport and has questioned where the Scuderia would take their competitive driving if they actually went through with their threat.

The new owners of F1, Liberty Media, will be implementing radical new changes in the sport including the standardisation of engine parts, the limit of three engines per season, and the more even distribution of prize money among the constructor teams.

Ferrari have been the biggest critics of the new changes, and although Brundle thinks that Liberty need to do as much as possible to evolve the sport, the Scuderia will not go through with their threat to leave as they would have nowhere to go of similar calibre to F1.

"They have got to be bold," Brundle told Sky Sports about Liberty Media.

"They have got to say 'this is the future of Formula 1, this is the direction we're going in, join up or depart'. And they've got to be really clear on that."

"I think they're bluffing," Brundle claimed about Ferrari leaving.

"For example, where would Ferrari go? Go and get their backsides handed to them on a plate by Mahindra in Formula E? They are already in Le Mans, they won the GT world championship - nobody knows about that.

"They do no advertising around the world, not a penny, because Formula 1 does it for them. So I believe Liberty have to be super tough.!

With new sports such as Formula E gaining popularity and the likes of NASCAR still dominating the American market, Brundle thinks that F1 needs to be bold in order to evolve.

"We have to be the fastest, the scariest, the best racing cars with the finest drivers wheel to wheel," he added.

"The objective is very easy, and I actually think getting there is relatively easy, but there's just an awful lot of politics and self-interest in the way. So I don't know where it is going to end up."
