Schumacher takes maiden F3 win

Mick Schumacher took his maiden European Formula 3 victory on Sunday, continuing a long family legacy of success at Spa. The Belgian track was also the scene of his father Michael Schumacher's Formula 1 debut, as well as his first win in the premier category.

Schumacher Jr has raced in F3 with Prema since the beginning of last season, but only took a solitary podium in his debut campaign.

Saturday's triumph had echoes of his father, though, as he mastered tricky conditions on a drying track to take the chequered flag.

"I'm really happy with the win," said the 19-year-old. "I was smiling about the rain - I like wet and drying conditions, the half-half we had today.

"I had to have the mental strength to keep it all together, and I got a gap when I needed to so that the guys couldn't get me in the slipstream."

Schumacher finished ahead of Prema team-mates Robert Shwartzman and Marcus Armstrong in the third race of the weekend.
