Verstappen frustrated with car after sixth place in qualifying

Max Verstappen was not pleased with his and his car's performance following a disappointing qualifying display in which he finished sixth, and has recognised that his weekend so far has been a struggle to try and make an impact on proceedings.

Verstappen has not looked comfortable during any of the free practice sessions at the Yas Marina and bemoaned the performance of his RB13 vehicle following qualification.

"The session was bad. The whole weekend I was struggling with the car balance and just not happy with it," Verstappen said after finishing down in sixth.

"Sometimes you have to accept it's one of those days where it's not going to be yours. You are fighting the car a lot. We tried to do the best possible job but that was sixth today.

“Run by run it’s a bit different because we change a lot of things: Front grip, rear grip. Qualifying was more, I guess, rear grip.”

Verstappen was bettered by team-mate, Daniel Ricciardo, by three-tenths of a second. The Dutchman has also confessed that he does not know exactly what the problem is with his car, but is hopeful of finding a solution by the Grand Prix proper tomorrow.

He added: "I don't know what went wrong otherwise we would have changed it. We need to understand what it was and hopefully we can learn something for tomorrow."
