Ecclestone hits out at Liberty Media: 'They want to run a KFC'

Bernie Ecclestone has once again been providing his thoughts on the state of F1 at the current moment under new owners Liberty Media, with the octogenerian saying that while he fan the sport like a five-star restaurant, Liberty want to run a 'KFC'.

In an interview with the Financial Times, the mogul discussed his lack of enthusiasm for the current product, calling it a 'shitty show', while also criticising the lack of 'characters' in the sport, stressing that Lews Hamilton is the only name that transcends the F1 bubble.

Ecclestone, who sold up to Liberty Media in 2016, was typically scathing about the approaches being taken by the new men in charge, and tried to compae business models as only he can.

He said of the current setup: “A lot of people say: [the new owners] are doing this and what do you think? Do you think it’s good? And I say what I’ve been saying to you. Wait and see.

“We used to run a five-star restaurant, they want to run a Kentucky Fried Chicken.”

Ecclestone also offered his political opinion on the current situation in Europe, with the UK embroiled in Brexit negotiations amid rumours of interference from Russia in the democratic process.

But the 87-year-old is clear in his thoughts on who should be in charge, adding: “Honestly, I think the guy who should be running Europe, impressed me more than anything, is Mr Putin because he’s a guy that says he’s going to do something and does it , a first-class person.”
