Alonso's pre-race ritual revealed

Originally written by Joas van Wingerden. This version is a translation.

Speaking at a sponsor event, Fernando Alonso has revealed his typical pre-race routine before a Grand Prix and has also given fans an insight as to what his behaviour is like away from the Formula One track on a normal day.

Alonso is aiming to secure the 'triple crown' of motor racing, which includes victories in the Indianapolis 500, Le Mans, and the Monaco Grand Prix, having already won the race in Monte Carlo. He will be hoping his pre-race schedule can bring him similar luck in the other two.

At the event, he detailed his actions on a race day.

He wakes up at around 8.30am and then has breakfast, usually cereal or fruit, followed by two consecutive strategy meetings at the circuit with his race team. In these meetings, Alonso will talk about how he will try and tackle the course and his team will respond with their opinions as well as updating the Spaniard on any mechanical issues or tactics.

After this comes meet-and-greets with sponsors and fans after which he will prepare for the race itself and get suited up.

At the event, Alonso also gave fans a clue as to what he is like away from F1. Speed is not an issue for him on normal days, as he prefers to bike than drive.

“Those days don’t come often, so when they do I take them slow!”

Alonso, on stage wearing a white t-shirt with a black suit jacket, laughed that even though he was at a fashion event, he insisted he is not stylish at all, even suggesting he wears his F1 helmet to hide his hair!

“Being stylish isn’t very important, I mean my hair is crazy but my F1 hat covers that. All I care about is about the race, but if I was given more time, I would love to spend time doing my hair and trimming my beard.”
