Grosjean completes seat fitting for farewell F1 test

Romain Grosjean has moved a step closer to completing a farewell Formula 1 test by attending a set fit.

After his horrific crash in the Bahrain Grand Prix last year, Grosjean was forced to call time on his F1 career two races earlier than was planned.

Haas had already confirmed neither the Frenchman nor team-mate Kevin Magnussen would continue with the team past the end of the season and both drivers had sought opportunities in the United States.

Grosjean, however, remained keen to get back behind the wheel of an F1 car and in the latest edition of the 'In the Fast Lane' podcast, Netflix's executive producer of 'Drive to Survive', James Gay-Rees, revealed the series has been filming with the driver.

"We were filming with Grosjean for a seat fitting today," Gay-Rees said. "He's having one last spin with a team."

Learning of Grosjean's longing to lap a Formula 1 car one final time, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said late last year: "If we were allowed to do this, and nobody else within his universe of teams that he raced would provide him with such an opportunity, we would do this."

A spokesperson for Mercedes was unable to confirm if Grosjean had visited the team's facility.

Informed of Wolff's comments, the former Renault driver described the opportunity to test a Mercedes as "an offer that you cannot refuse".

Grosjean, who will compete in IndyCar with Dale Coyne Racing this year, added: "The offer really touched me, in a good way. I was really surprised and a natural way of going for it and obviously I would love to do it.”
