Strong race execution give McLaren hope of retaining fourth in the standings
Team boss Seidl believes McLaren maximise its race potential more often than not
McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl has claimed the consistently high level of the team as a whole has allowed them to pick up points on their rivals even on difficult weekends.
McLaren has continued its upwards trajectory in 2020, recovering from a number of years of racing at the back of the pack.
Following the Spanish Grand Prix, Seidl explained: “Even at a track here that we know, we still have deficits, especially in low speed, compared to some cars around us.
"And in terms of execution of races, I think we have also seen last year that we made many, many points compared to other teams simply by a very good execution of the races on Sunday afternoon in terms of strategy."
Pit stops have been a problem area for McLaren in 2020, but things ran smoothly on Sunday, much to the relief of Seidl.
He continued: "Also in terms of pit stops. Even not being that consistent this year, I’m very happy that we could do four really quick and clean pit stops which hopefully gives us good momentum for the entire team to keep it up like that.
“If you look at last year also, we were not necessarily the fourth quickest team last year, but thanks to a great execution many times on the Sunday we could score this P4 in the constructors’ championship last year.
“That gives me also a lot of trust in the team, to the people we have, that we have a strong racing team together with the support rom home.
“Looking at all this, together with the two great drivers that we have to mention as well, because you need two great drivers that continuously put it on track on Saturdays and Sundays. I think we have everything in our hands to keep going strong this year.
“It’s great to see now after six races, after the second triple header, that we are in P4 of the constructors’ championship, one point ahead of the Ferraris which is encouraging and [is] great motivation to keep going and try to further improve as a team.”
