Verstappen pinpoints Red Bull's turning point
Max Verstappen says the upgrade package Red Bull brought to the Austrian Grand Prix has been crucial in his skyrocketing form in recent races.
Verstappen will start the Hungarian Grand Prix from pole position, looking to win for the third time in four races; in the other, Verstappen was set for second place until a collision with Sebastian Vettel left him to limp home fifth.
The Hungaroring saw Verstappen take the first pole position of his career, continuing a sharp upturn in fortunes after Red Bull had looked a distant third behind Ferrari and Mercedes in the early rounds of the season.
And Verstappen says the Spielberg race, where Verstappen took a revamped front wing among other updates, was the turning point.
"I think it's a bit of both where we were lacking in the beginning," he said. "We made good gains with the engine, but we're not where we want to be and I think everybody knows that.
"But we are pushing hard and we are improving and we are getting close to Mercedes and Ferrari, especially Ferrari, they seem very quick on the straights.
"With the chassis I think since Austria where we introduced a few crucial updates I think the car has been a lot better.
"From there onwards we kept bringing new parts; maybe not as major as that one but it always gave me more of a balanced feeling in the car. And that's exactly what we were looking for in the car and I guess it shows on a track where you need a lot of downforce that the car was working really well."
