Rosberg gives advice on how to beat Hamilton

Former F1 world champion Nico Rosberg has offered up a series of hints and tricks he used to gain an edge over his great rival Lewis Hamilton in order to win the title, with one of the most interesting being clear - lose weight!

In an interview with BBC Sport filmed during a documentary about his career in the sport, Rosberg spoke on a number of issues he used to maintain a competitive advantage over the rest of the grid, including using a certain type of glove bespoke to him.

He also discussed the mental fortitude required to stay focused on your goal for an entire season, but most interestingly he spoke about his own fitness regime, and what was required in order to stay in the correct physical condition to compete with Hamilton

Rosberg said: "Weight is so crucial. One kilo counts for four hundredths of a second. The only solution was to stop exercising and lose my leg muscles.

"Then we went to Japan, Lewis was in front in qualifying, and I nailed my final lap to get on pole by three one-hundredths of a second.

"Massive!"

Rosberg, who always had a strained relationship with Hamilton when both of them were driving together, added that in order to ensure he had the respect of the team, he looked to lessons learned from one of the greats.

He added: "There was some proper headmaster stuff happening. I learned so much from driving with Michael Schumacher, because Michael had an incredible way to do team building and to get the team to support him.

"When Lewis came on board, he was the world champion, he was the massive talent, and I had to fight to try and stay on his level in terms of internal respect. That was crucial that we had a good balance there."
