Hamilton will join the ownership group of the Broncos Franchise
Lewis Hamilton has become a part of the ownership group for NFL franchise the Denver Broncos.
The seven-time F1 champion has joined the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group at the franchise ahead of the new NFL season, with pre-season games beginning this month.
The move for Hamilton comes after a failed involvement with a bid to become joint-owner of Chelsea Football Club earlier this year, in which he partnered up with Tennis legend Serena Williams and Sir Martin Broughton.
Walton-Penner acquired the franchise for $4.65billion in June from the Pat Bowlen Trust, a record for an American sports team.
A statement from Walmart heir Rob Walton on behalf of the Walton-Penner partnership read: "We're delighted to welcome seven-time Formula 1 world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton to our ownership group.
"He is a champion competitor who knows what it takes to lead a winning team and a fierce advocate for global equality, including in his own sport.
"With over 100 race wins, Lewis is considered the most successful F1 driver of all time.
"His resilient spirit and standard of excellence will be an asset to the ownership group and the Broncos organization."
Taking to Twitter to address the news accompanied by a picture of his dog, Roscoe, in a Broncos uniform, Hamilton added: "Excited to join an incredible group of owners and become a part of the Broncos story!
"Honoured to work with a world-class team and serve as an example of the value of more diverse leadership across all sports."
