Lewis Hamilton has not been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year after missing out on a record-breaking eighth F1 title in Abu Dhabi.
The Mercedes driver was overtaken in controversial circumstances by rival Max Verstappen on the final lap of the season, with the Dutchman clinching his maiden championship.
British driver Hamilton had won the BBC end-of-year award, where a panel of experts select six sports stars for a shortlist ahead of a public vote, in 2020 and 2014 but his absence this year marks the first time since Nico Rosberg clinched the title in 2016 the seven-time champion has not be recognised.
Instead, diver Tom Daley, boxer Tyson Fury, swimmer Adam Peaty, tennis star Emma Raducanu, footballer Raheem Sterling and Paralympic cyclist Sarah Storey all make the mark.
The World Star shortlist was released last week, with Verstappen included within the nominations. The last F1 driver to win that award was Sebastian Vettel.
