Verstappen, Britain

Max Verstappen has brandished F1 championship rival Lewis Hamilton as "dangerous" and labelled the British Grand Prix winner's celebrations as "disrespectful and unsportsmanlike".

The Red Bull driver started from pole at Silverstone and was defending from a hard-charging Hamilton when the pair collided at Copse, sending Verstappen into the barriers with an impact of 51g.

Whilst Hamilton overcame a 10-second penalty for the incident to take victory with a move on Charles Leclerc at the very same corner in the closing stages, Verstappen has been taken to hospital for precautionary checks after the violent incident.

Writing on social media, Verstappen said: "Glad I’m ok.

"Very disappointed with being taken out like this. The penalty given does not help us and doesn’t do justice to the dangerous move Lewis made on track.

"Watching the celebrations while still in hospital is disrespectful and unsportsmanlike behaviour but we move on."

Verstappen's lead in the championship has been cut to just seven points.
