Norris - "Not too crazy" for McLaren to win a race this year

Lando Norris does not believe it is "too crazy" to suggest McLaren could win a race this season.

McLaren has started the season as the third-best team on the grid, with Norris third in the drivers' standings following a superb run of results that has included two third-place finishes.

Last season, Pierre Gasly and Sergio Perez shocked F1 last season with victories at Monza and Sakhir for AlphaTauri and Racing Point respectively.

With the field even tighter this year due to the introduction of downforce cuts, Norris has suggested McLaren is in a better place than ever to take the top step.

When asked if the idea of a race win was crazy, Norris responded: "It's not too crazy."

"Let's say it's our best season in a long time to maybe achieve something like that.

"With the team, I'm positive when I need to be, and negative when I need to be. All of that's only for the benefit of the team, putting our heads right and keeping us working hard.

"We've had three strong races, three good races because I feel like I've done a very good job, and together the team has done a good job."

Despite the stellar start to the season, Norris has warned that fortunes can change quickly.

"At any point, it might not be quite as good," he added. "A lot of people build us up, saying we're doing so well at the moment blah blah blah.

"It's a cruel world, and if something happens or goes wrong, we can very easily be put in the ground, and people will say 'You're not concentrating' and just come up with all these excuses like they sometimes do.

"As I said, it's managing expectations, keeping the team's head right, not going ahead of ourselves when we are getting too over-confident and just keeping a level head and keep working for ourselves and on ourselves."
