Cowell "evaluating many options" - Wolff

Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff believes Andy Cowell can have his pick of any job with the former engine guru currently evaluating his future.

Cowell has been one of the principal figures behind Mercedes' dominance of the turbo-hybrid era, with the team on course for its record-breaking seventh consecutive constructors' and drivers' championships this season.

At the end of June, Cowell stepped down from his position as managing director at HPP, although is currently still working with Mercedes on another project, which is understood to be through to early 2021.

Beyond that is open to debate, with Wolff stating: "Andy Cowell was a very important part of our Formula 1 team. He transformed our performance levels from 2014 onwards.

"He’s somebody that is close to my heart as a person and also as an engineer, and he is at a stage where he’s evaluating all options, and there are many options on the table.

"Only he can decide what is best for him, and he will take his time to do that. I don’t think he will jump on any ship quickly.

"But I think for him, with his track record and his skills as a leader, the world is his oyster."

Cowell has been linked with a move to Ferrari as the Scuderia has struggled with its power unit since technical directives were issued late last season regarding fuel flow and oil burning.

Team principal Mattia Binottto, while declaring himself to be "pretty happy" with the recent restructuring of his technical department, did not rule out the prospect of Cowell coming on board.
