Sainz rejects Brawn 'nervous' claim over Ferrari switch
Sainz insists even with hindsight he would not change his decision
Carlos Sainz has rejected the claims of Ross Brawn that he is 'nervous' over his impending move to Ferrari.
Brawn, Formula 1's managing director motorsports, suggested that following the Scuderia's worst two-car result for a decade in Belgium on Sunday, Sainz might be starting to become anxious.
In a regular column, Brawn said the Spaniard's "dream move to Ferrari next year isn’t looking too good right now and inevitably, he must be nervous about his prospects next season".
The McLaren driver, though, is adamant he has no regrets over his decision and that he would not think twice about the switch to Maranello if offered to him now.
"I am very comfortable with the decision I have taken," said Sainz.
"I am 100% confident for the Ferrari people for what they can do for the future. You have to remember, last season they were capable of taking seven pole positions so it is a team I think knows how to produce race cars."
With reference to his unfortunate results this season, Sainz added: "Regarding if I am nervous, what makes me nervous is to lose 30 points due to no fault of my own.
"That's what really concerns me right now and really makes me go to bed and think 'Where the hell have I lost this amount of points?' and 'How is this happening to me?'.
"But I am very confident and I am ready to go for Ferrari next season and cannot be more excited."
With strict protocols still enforced by F1 regarding fan attendance at races, the Italian Grand Prix will sorely miss the passion of the fans.
But Sainz revealed he has already been buoyed by the interaction with the Ferrari faithful this week.
"I can already feel the excitement of the Tifosi," he explained.
"The way they have approached me whenever we leave the hotel between the hotel and the car, which is not a long time but they somehow manage to find you and give you good energy.
"That good energy that I have received this weekend is already starting to make me feel how exciting it is going to be next year being part of the team with such history.
"Honesty, I think going to Ferrari is such a unique experience and such a special place for a Formula 1 driver.
"I don't think there is ever going to be a bad time where you say 'I do not want to go to Ferrari'. You can give me that option 100 times again, I will always say 'yes'."
