Sainz complains again about midfield not being showcased
Carlos Sainz has again voiced his displeasure that a key moment in a midfield battle was not shown on television coverage, with the cameras instead focused on the stale battle for first and second at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Spaniard knew heading into the race at Yas Marina that he needed to finish inside the top 10 and outperform Pierre Gasly in order to claim sixth place in the drivers’ championship and moniker of ‘best of the rest’ outside of the top three teams.
It looked like he was going to miss out languishing in 11th, but pulled off a superb overtake on Nico Hulkenberg in the dying seconds to take 10th, only for it not to be shown by television producers.
“I’m not going to talk too much about it,” Sainz told Formule1.
“But I think everyone was talking about the fight for sixth place in the championship last weekend.
“Then there was finally a fight in the last laps and even the last corners, but even then they didn’t show it. So I think it’s strange that everyone was so enthusiastic about the fight, but nothing was actually seen on the TV."
See the overtake below:
Last lap: P11. Needs a P10 finish to seal 6th in the championship...
