VIDEO: Leclerc crashes in Hungary quali - 'Definitely not acceptable'

Another error for Charles.

Charles Leclerc was typically self-flagellating, despite securing fourth on the grid at the Hungarian Grand Prix, admonishing himself for a mistake in Q1 which almost took him out of qualifying.

Leclerc spun out of the final corner of the Hungaroring and damaged his rear wing against the tyre barrier, having already set a time good enough to progress from the first segment.

Ferrari's mechanics were able to repair the damage in time for him to emerge for Q2 and he would ultimately outqualify team-mate Sebastian Vettel, despite the German looking on better form for much of the weekend prior.

Leclerc spun out of the German GP last week and saw his hopes of pole position in Baku earlier this year go up in smoke due to a crash and the Monegasque says cutting out the mistakes is his priority.

"I've been very lucky, very lucky to go again," Leclerc told Sky Sports.

"I have to thank the team very much for what they've done but it was completely unnecessary mistake at the point of quali, so that's two mistakes in two grands prix.

"The first one wasn't acceptable, I would say, but this one is definitely not acceptable and if I had stayed in the wall it would have been a lot worse.

"So I need to learn from these mistakes. This is the second one in quali at an unnecessary time so I need to understand and work on that.

"It's a little bit different now. Obviously Baku was just trying too hard. This one I had Seb starting the lap in front; I knew I would lose a little bit of downforce, but I was just surprised. It's completely my fault so I will work on it."
