McLaren 'want to get back to winning ways' in 2018

McLaren director Zak Brown has insisted that his team are looking forward to the start of the 2018 Formula One campaign in March and are aiming 'to get back to winning ways' after a disappointing three years which were plagued by Honda engine reliability problems.

The Britain-based team are one of the most successful in the history of the sport, but have only claimed one driver's championship this century via Lewis Hamilton in 2008 and have not won a Grand Prix race since 2012.

They have been involved in a partnership with Honda for the past three years, but this has now been terminated in favour of Renault parts which will be provided instead.

Brown has revealed that the morale within the ranks at McLaren is high and that everyone wants the team to become competitive alongside the likes of Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull again.

"Morale is great, people are working hard, we're excited," Brown told Racing Magazine.

"We've got a new livery coming, we've got a new garage coming, we've got a new engine coming, we've got the two drivers we wanted.

"Everyone's working well together. Eric [Boullier] is happy with everything that he has. I asked him the other day 'Anything else you need?' 'Nope, I got what I need.' So everyone is excited and the anticipation is building. I wish Australia was tomorrow.

The desire to get back to our winning ways is off the chart. It's really made everyone hungrier and I think that's a good place for the organization to be. A really hungry McLaren, that's a good thing."

Things at McLaren appear to be positive currently, and Brown has insisted that everyone working behind the scenes treats the team as a major part of their life.

"The unbelievable thing about this place is, when you walk the halls, this is a team that has won 20 world championships and everyone is very proud," Brown continued.

"I've never been to a place where for so many people their life is McLaren or they wanted to work at McLaren their whole life. I'm not sure many companies have that level of enthusiasm from their employees.”
