Hamilton continues Norris 'man's sport' debate

Hamilton continues Norris 'man's sport' debate

Lewis Hamilton said he was not targeting Lando Norris, or any other specific driver, while lamenting that Formula 1 is, in his opinion, no longer a "man's sport" as younger drivers are able to adapt quicker to life on the grid.

Both Hamilton and Norris faced the media in a Thursday press conference ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, where the topic of improving the spectacle of F1 was raised.

While making a string of suggestions, Hamilton said: "It's a man's sport and a lot of youngsters come in and it's quite easy for them to get straight into it."

In response, Norris said: "It must be targeted at me, George [Russell] and Alex [Albon], because we're the youngest in F1 and I'm not suffering perhaps as much as he thinks I should."

However, Hamilton moved to reassure the 19-year-old, and praised his ascension to F1.

"Honestly not targeting anyone and definitely not you," Hamilton posted on Instagram over an image of an article carrying Norris' opinion. "It's a wider point I am speaking of.

"You are doing a great job. I wasn't a teenager when I got here."

Hamilton later deleted the post.
